Dragon Age Inquistion Review – Part 4 | Grahics and Audio – Mixed Feelings

Hello everyone and welcome to our place! 😀

So, it took me 4 posts to fully review Dragon Age: Inquisition. Damn, 4 weeks, which means a month talking about Dragon Age: Inquisition. If this don’t tell you how huge this game is, I don’t know what will! (It also says how bad I am in summarizing things, but that’s a story for another day).

Dragon age inquisition review in 4 parts
Don’t pity me Sera! I know I still have a lot to learn… Ok?

Nevertheless, if this is the first post, or you missed one of the parts, here is the previous posts:

For today I’ll be speaking about Graphics and Audio. Since I want to end this review a positive note, I’ll be talking about Audio first 😀

– Audio –

Are you sure you want me to start?

Now, I don’t have anything  bad to say about voice acting or the OST itself. In fact, it’s suberb. I couldn’t ask for better! The OST is just one that you would find in a highly produced Epic Movie. The Voice acting, the same! Moreover, the combination of the characters’ voice with their face reactions are really well done and look way too natural.

No, I don’t have any bad to talk about that… No… My complaints are towards the way they decided to do about the levels of the different audios and the music itself.

I thought for a long time that this was also a bug, but I went in the Internet and found out, that no, having no music while exploring most of the time is not a bug. In fact, it was a thoughtful decision they decided to go with. What the developers say is that they wanted for us, the players, to feel inside the game. Thus deciding to have the minimum of background music so we could “hear” the environment noise… What?… Again… What?

Dragon age inquisition audio rant
Oh! I haven’t even started!

First, one of the most important things when it comes to exploring in RPGs is the MUSIC! Second, having a music start randomly every half an hour while exploring just seems that something is happening, put you in alert and then, you realize that nothing really happened. Third, I’m sorry but most of the times I can’t even hear that much of “environment”. Yes, it’s there, but as you should expect, it is not in a level that will be the thing that you hear the most, To be honest, I have to put my TV in a sound level way higher than any kind of another game because everything is just way too low. (Even if you put it as 100%).

So, I’m sorry, but I think the decision to take out the background music was not good. It’s true that when we enter a boss battle where the music starts epically playing makes you feel excited for the fight. However, that feeling would be the same if we were hearing a background chill music. Moreover, music is GOOD for us to enter the environment of the game and make us more inside of it. But, well… That’s what they decided…

Dragon age: inquisition background music
Damn it Cullen! 😦

Now, since there is almost no background music, you should expect that you can hear everyone talking really easily, right? No! There were so many times that I had to even put the Television higher because I couldn’t hear a thing in the conversations happening. I don’t really understand what happened, but the audio is far from great.

Nevertheless, the voice acting and the music IS great! Sad that we can’t hear them as much as we wanted though 😦

– Graphics –

Dragon Age: Inquisition graphics

Ok, now in a more positive note! I’ve talked about the amount of detail that was put into the story, world and character building, right? The graphics were the same!

Everything was created into the detail. I’ll give you an example: If you do The Descent DLC you will be inside some caverns. When you enter and start talking to your assistant, the rocks behind her have water running from the humidity. This is the amount of detail put in every world map, ruins, monsters, etc.

Dragon Age Inquisition environment

Contrary to the other Dragon Age installments, in Dragon Age: Inquisition you will be around all Thedas. This means, different kingdoms, different architecture, different culture, different clothing… Everything basically! It’s pleasant to see that the creators took this into accound and every map was made in detail to show just that.

Being you in a swamp, a forest, a desert, anything you could think about. All maps where also designed to detail and made me drop my jaw more times I can count!

The details though

When it comes to graphics, Dragon Age: Inquisition is beatiful and has that “thing” which makes you want to enter the Television and live inside the game.

Let’s have a meeting!

Ok… This is officialy my biggest review ever… I mean, one month writing about a game is way too much! Tell me in the comments if you think this was the way to go or if you would prefer the 4 parts in only one post with around 4000 words! I always want to deliver you my content the best way for you ^.^

The game is not flawless (sadly), but it’s a must for any RPG fan. The game is tremendous and you can expect to travel to Thedas for more than 100 hours until you finish everything! I love the game, but I can’t give him a perfect score because of its problems.

This way, my rating is:

Tell me in the comments what you thought about Dragon Age: Inquisition! Do you think my rating is on point or should I have given a lower/higer note?

    1. One of the most beatiful games I’ve ever played! It’s one of those RPGs that you really enter the game while playing it and just stop to appreciate the landscape eheh

  1. You write the way you want bro. I personally when doing these kinds of reviews would put it all in one post, but that’s just because I’m kinda stubborn and don’t like splitting things into parts when I don’t need to (What I’m saying is, don’t be like me :<).

Anyways how does this compare with the other dragon age games. Is it your favourite? Any hopes for the next game?

    1. Ahahah! 😀 Yeah, we all have our ways of writing, that’s what makes the blogging community so nice and diverse eheh

Hmmm those are nice questions! 😀 My favourite it’s still Dragon Age: Origins.

Regarding the story, Dragon Age: Inquisition is not as good as the other two. However, exploration is way better. It is way more diverse and dynamic. Character’s wise, I still prefered Dragon Age: Origins, BUT it’s way better than Dragon Age 2 xD

Regarding the next game, I hope they go a little back to their roots. Making the main story more interesting and intriguing, as also making your choices to have higher impact in the end of the game. Story wise I’m pretty sure it will be about the spirit world and the “earth” world living together and the problems with that. I do hope though that they go away from Thedas and start exploring more the Tevinter Imperium (which I’m pretty sure they will ahah) – I should write a post about this ahah

What about you, have you played the game? If so, I do the same questions you did to me ahah

      1. I haven’t played DA:I yet, but I have played DAO and DA2 (twice in fact, both of them). I wouldn’t say I have a definitive favourite but I think for gameplay DA2 beats DAO and for story DAO is much better. DAO’s combat felt really clunky a lot of the times while DA2’s combat just clicked with me much faster and nicer. DA2’s story was a pretty jumbled mess though with the whole 3 act structure and the lackluster character interactions.

I was actually pretty excited for DA:I back when it was first announced. But I never got around to actually playing it once it released. I totally want to get around to it though one day…after I finish my backlog of games first haha.

      2. I agree with you. However, I think DA2 gameplay was not perfect. The story is worse, especially when it comes to Hawke’s companions. DA:O did a way better job to create interesting characters with interesting str«ories.

Ahahah You should! The game is pretty fun! It’s a shame that the story is not that good. But, at least, all characters are build in a really good way and all of them are interesting to know better. Also, the gamelay is the perfection of DA2

      3. Looking forwawrd to it! It’s been awhile since I played Dragon Age and my first game was DA2 so there could be some first-timer’s bias there. If you were to ask me why I liked it more, I probably couldn’t give you a good argument :3

Anywho what other type of games do you play? Feel like most people I follow only watch anime haha so it would be nice to know more about the people that play games as well 🙂

      4. Ahahah Completely understand you! I have the same problem! 😀 Well, I play way too many games to write just in a comment. But normally I go for RPGs. And in the past few months I’ve been playing mostly Playstation 4. However, I also love horror, “movie” type games such as Beyond Two Souls, survival games, strategy… Basically, anything exept sport games xD

        What about you?

      5. Yeah same I mostly go for RPG’s, though I like dabbing into other genres a lot too. Also agree with you on sports game uh rather play them IRL tbh. I’ve been playing Octopath recently and it’s been a blast!

      6. I love the environment from Octopath! I need to try it out! 😀 At the moment I’m swiftly trying all Kingdom Hearts games before KH3 comes out ahah

And, yeah! It’s the same as watching sports on the TV. For that just play it irl! It’s way more funnier (and healthier) ahah

      7. I’m playing the 1.5 + 2.5 HD for ps4 😀 I’m playing the RE: Chain of Memories right now. Then I’m going to KH 2, then 365/2 days. LAst, but not the least I’m going to replay KH Birth By Sleep to remember things xD

Then I’m going with the 2.8 xD

At the same time I’ll probably continue to stream Dragon Age Inquistion (still didn’t finish all trophies) and when my bf steals the PS4 I’m playing Steins;Gate on PC xD

        Let’s say I’m a heavy gamer ahah

  2. I’ve been following your review for this game… for four weeks, like you said, haha. Another brilliant addition to it. I think the issue with sound (im)balance is something that I have noticed in a lot of games recently, and it tends to be the only aspect that bothers me on occasion (mostly when I’m playing in the middle of the night and everyone is asleep lol). But to hear that this is lacking in music where it matters most makes me sad. Video game music is one of my favourite types of music to listen to.

    1. Thank you so much for the kind comment and for following this review for so long xD

Yeah, I completely agree with that! Music for me makes completely the difference when it comes to gaming. This way, it bothered me a lot that you don’t have a constant bakground music in this one 😦
